Abstract

Classic triad of the disease are oral ulcers, genital ulcers and uveitis. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet (PLT) and mean platelet volume (MPV) and Behcet which is a systemic inflammatory disease. Methods: Fifty-three patients who were diagnosed by the international diagnostic criteria of Behcet Disease; and 55 healthy subjects were enrolled in the study, between January 2014 and October 2015. Behcet Disease patients were divided into two groups: active (n=20) and inactive (n=33). CRP, ESR, WBC, PLT, MPV were recorded, NLR and PLR was calculated. Results: An evaluation of the Receiver operating characteristic curves for the CRP, ESR, WBC, PLT, MPV, NLR and PLR values measured at active Behcet Disease patients indicated that the CRP value had the highest (Area Under Curve (AUC):0.964), while the next highest AUC values were observed with ESR (AUC:0,849), WBC (AUC:0,849), NLR (AUC:0,816), PLR (AUC:0,661), PLT (AUC:0,654) and MPV (AUC:0,524). Conclusion: These findings suggest that NLR, PLR and PLT levels can be used to predict the period of active Behcet Disease like CRP, ESR and WBC whereas MPV levels can not be used.
