Abstract

The unified digital communications platform (UDCP) is a shared system for critical radio communication among government departments in Hong Kong for public safety. With a view to the increasing demand on maritime safety and law enforcement, there is an imminent need to improve the sea coverage of UDCP. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has been engaged for design and administration of the improvement project. With the support of various stakeholders, an innovative and cost-effective idea for an outdoor off-air repeater station is suggested. Despite the technical constraints in system design and installation, the off-air repeater station is successfully installed and its benefit is well demonstrated and appreciated by government departments.
