Abstract

In this paper, we propose a MW-level sheet electron beam microwave oscillator operating in X band. The slow wave structure (SWS) of the oscillator consists of the waveguide and the complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) array. The high frequency characteristics includes dispersion and interaction impedance are analyzed by using the CST eigenmode solver. The simulation results show that the cold bandwidth ranges from 9.53 GHz to 9.78 GHz, and the interaction impedance is higher than 600 Ohm. We then design a waveguide coupler for the SWS, the simulated transmission coefficient is greater than -5 dB from 9.53 GHz to 9.65 GHz. Finally, we study the MW-level microwave oscillator by using CST simulation, the output power is up to 1.22 MW and the electronic efficiency is 16.3% at 9.551 GHz when the electron beam voltage and current are 170 kV and 22 A, respectively.
