Abstract
Electromagnetic field mapping technique is used to track the position of the probes used for minimally invasive surgeries . The tracking of the probe position during a surgery depends on the previous experiences of the doctor by doing similar surgeries and usage of camera is also common in some types of surgeries. X-ray and scanning equipment are also used for this task which often produces 2D data and 3D data producing equipment are very costly. The proposed work targets to show that it is possible to track the position of a metallic object especially surgical probes used for minimally invasive surgeries in a 3-dimensional space by employing an electromagnetic field such that it can provide a unique data for every position the metallic object occupies at a particular time. Moreover, the doctors and the patients experience no radiation exposure when compared to conventional methods.
