Abstract

This paper presents the design and hardware implementation of a key-shaped micro strip fractal antenna with compact volume for ultra wide band application. A key-shaped micro strip fractal antenna with partial ground has been designed for iteration depth of 5 level using High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS'13) and is mounted on FR4 substrate. The performance parameter like VSWR, return loss, radiation pattern and gain of proposed design has been studied and concluded. The simulated results demonstrate that the structure exhibits wide impedance bandwidths of frequency spans 3.39-4.07 GHz and 5.22-6.66 GHz and 9.08-8.15GHz. The designed antenna contributes to the X-band as well as C band applications. The antenna covers ultra wide band from 3.0 GHz -- 9.1 GHz exhibiting good radiation characteristics in this band. The maximum gain of antenna achieved is 4.46 dB for frequency band 9.08-8.15GHz for fifth iteration of key-shaped patch.
