Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify particular characteristics of what is behind the word, how the words are organized in the individual vocabulary of the language personality of Grigory Pechorin. The methodology of the research is based on the previous study of the language personality. Research priority is to determine the specifics of the internal organization of an individual vocabulary, especially to distinguish features of relations that develop between words as units of an «assumed» lexical system.During the first stage of the research, all the words of Grigory Pechorin were selected from the novel by the method of continuous sampling. Based on the selected material, an individual vocabulary of the main hero was compiled. Grigory Pechorin’s individual vocabulary includes 3 212 unique words. The article deals with the second part of the analysis of the verbal-semantic level of language personality, on which the semantic and contextual analyses of frequent words are carried out. The results of semantic and contextual analysis of the most frequent nouns are presented on the material of the novel by M. Yu. Lermontov «A hero of our time».During the semantic analysis of the frequency nouns with the semantic meaning «who» in the lexicon of Grigory Pechorin, the individual semantic field «Man» was emphasised. It is represented by such semantic centers as человек, княжна, женщина, доктор, друг, княгиня, люди. The distinguished semantic centers form the «Society» cluster, which occupies a significant place in the individual picture of the hero’s world. Thus, the semantic field «Words that name the subject: all living things» is represented by 8 high-frequency words with a total number of usage – 312. All of them are associated with the name of the person. The results of the study can be used in theoretical linguistics in the process of the study of the language personality structure and in comparative linguistics in the process of identifying the structural features of the individual vocabulary of male and female language personalities.
