Abstract

ABSTRACT This letter reports a novel observation of terrestrial foraging behavior by the Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii), highlighting its adaptability and resourcefulness in exploiting diverse food sources. The study documents the heron’s unusual feeding habits in Kollam Beach, India, where it demonstrates a preference for terrestrial environments despite its aquatic habitat. Through detailed observations and video recordings, the authors shed light on the heron’s foraging behavior and its implications for our understanding of wading bird ecology.
