Abstract
Digital libraries in the XXI century have become the most important sources of information in all branches of science and technology, the main direction of development of world librarianship, any information activities. The first electronic library was Project Gutenberg, founded by Michael Hart exactly 50 years ago. It became world famous only in the 90s, after the appearance of Internet and the first browsers. Hart dreamed of 10,000 digitized books, and by his admission, he achieved all the goals that he set for himself. In Russia, one of the first and most significant is Maxim Moshkov’s library (1994). This paper traces the stages of creation of these libraries and the biographies of their creators; the difficulties in their work are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the issues of copyright duration legislation.

Электронные библиотеки в XXI веке стали важнейшими источниками информации во всех отраслях науки и техники, магистральным направлением развития мирового библиотечного дела, всей информационной деятельности. Ключевые слова: электронные библиотеки, Проект Гутенберг, Майкл Харт, библиотека Мошкова, авторские права. Что стал обладателем огромного богатства, и задумался, как использовать неограниченное количество компьютерного времени для чего-то более полезного, чем банальные вычисления. Так было положено начало Проекту Гутенберг, крупнейшей для своего времени коллекции бесплатных электронных книг. – Когда я выбирал название, главным фактором было то, что публикация электронных книг меняет картину грамотности и образования так же, как это сделал пресс Гутенберга, который снизил цену книг в 400 раз. Отметив 40-летие своего проекта, 64-летний Харт писал друзьям 16 июля 2011 г.: «Я достиг всех целей, которые ставил перед собой на протяжении всей жизни, и могу сказать, не опасаясь излишних резонансных откликов, что карьера, которую я выбрал в области электронных книг, оказалась успешной с точки зрения того, чего я пытался достичь за последние четыре десятилетия»15.
