Abstract

The eight wave non-conservative form of three-dimensional ideal MHD equations is used to study the degeneracies of the eigensystem. A set of eigenvectors associated with the system of equations are developed in various limiting cases. A two-dimensional blunt body configuration problem is investigated in different magnetic fields using the revised eigenvectors based on these degeneracies. The numerical scheme applied is LU-SGS integration scheme with the Davis-Yee second-order upwind TVD model. The numerical results indicate that the revision based on degenerate cases contributes to a more accurate flow field, and enhances the robustness of the numerical scheme.
