Abstract

A low pubescent trailing fleshy aromatic herb or soft shrub. Stem slightly woody at base, 15 to 80 cm long, sparsely branched, obscurely 4-angled, villose to lanate, sometimes purplish tinged. Leaves petiolate, petiole up to 2 (3) cm long, blade ovate, 1-3.5(-6) x 0-9-3.4(6) cm, fleshy, up to 2 mm thick, sericeous on both surfaces, whitish to grey-green, veins on lower surface distinctive, base cuneate, margin coarsely crenate with 4-5 pairs of teeth. Inflorescence terminal, short and dense or elongate and interrupted, crowded towards the apex, 2-7 cm, simple, very hairy; bracts ovate to rhomboid, sometimes with two teeth, about 2-5 x 1-2-1-5mm, villose. Flowers in dense, glomerate, many-flowered dichasia, pedicels 1-5 mm long. Calyx 3 mm long at flowering, villose, green or purplish; teeth five, the uppermost distinctly larger than the rest, oblong-lanceolate, 1-5 mm long, the lower four teeth deltoid-subulate, 0-5-1 mm long. Corolla blue or lilac, (6)-7-11 mm long; tube curved; upper lip erect, 2 mm long and equally broad, emarginate and with two lateral lobes, villose; lower lip concave, rounded, 3-5 mm long, villose. Stamen: filaments blue, free at the base, curved and enclosed in the lower lip, anthers purplish red, pollen dark yellow. Pistil: style 9 mm, blue.
