Abstract

The intrinsic viscosity of the solution of unperturbed chain molecules is calculated based upon the model of a flexible continuous cylinder obeying the Gaussian statistics worked out by Edwards and Oliver for the calculation of the translational friction coefficient. (J. Phys. A4 (1971) 1.) It is found that the intrinsic viscosity thus obtained is proportional to the square root of the molecular weight irrespective of the draining condition.
