Abstract

Using available data, the authors have attempted to analyze mortality in Mexico especially in terms of the variations between the different states.Most recent data indicate that parental and infantile mortality, and more particularly post-neonatal mortality as well as mortality of children between one and four years old, is declining in Mexico. This decrease seems to have been realized in spite of unfavorable economic conditions.The regional variations in mortality are still of significance. In addition to infectious disease due to living conditions it is increasingly necessary to take into account chronic illnesses which result at least in part from the high levels of contaminants present in the air, water and soil.
