Abstract

The morphology and life stages of a new species of Microsporidia, Nosema juli, in the millipede, Diploiulus londinensis caeruleocinctus (Wood), are described. The initial site of infection appears to be in the fat body, with subsequent development in muscles and connective tissues. Some pathological characteristics and taxonomic considerations are indicated. This is believed to be the first report of a microsporidian infecting an arthropod in the class Diplopoda.
