Abstract

In the article the author examines the reformist activities of M.N. Muravyov-Vilensky as the Vilna Governor-General of the Russian Empire to introduce russifi cation in the territory of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania after the suppression of the anti-Russian January uprising of 1863. The author comes to the conclusion that Muravyov’s reforms were of great importance for the restoration of Russian national, religious and cultural identity in this territory.
