Abstract
NiV 2Nb 2O 10 forms with the rutile structure. The Ni-V-Nb-O phase shows a large homogeneity range with respect to NiO, V 2O 4, V 2O 5, NbO 2 or Nb 2O 5 with retention of the rutile structure. The lattice parameter variations observed as a function of each of the constituent oxide concentrations respectively, within the rutile homogeneity range are discussed in terms of ionic size effects and cation-cation interactions along the tetragonal c axis.
