Abstract

The reflection of light beams at a dielectric interface is studied from the moment method of light beam propagation. We obtain approximate analytical formulae for the geometrical nonspecular phenomena arising from the reflection of paraxial light beams of arbitrary spatial form, which apply to total and partial reflection, far and near the Brewster angle. New divergence modification and focal shift are predicted for the partial reflection of non-gaussian beams.
