Abstract
On the basis of formal solutions for the nucleon field in Walecka's ellective meson theory we derive nonperturbative approximations neglecting free mesonic degrees of freedom and anti-nucleons. In lowest order the method yields the Hartree-Fock equations. Higher approximations describe the propagation of particles and holes correlated to particle-hole excitations.
