Abstract

Wind is strong at the site of Jing River Bridge, the effect of wind load and other possible loadings on the stability of the structure is considered. Based on the actual construction stage, this paper mainly analyzed the nonlinear stability of No.6 and No.7 piers of the Jing River Bridge. Material nonlinearity and geometric nonlinearity are both included in the numerical investigation. The results show the wind load does not have too much effect on the stability of the piers at largest cantilever construction stage. When different loading combinations and material nonlinearity and geometric nonlinearity are considered, the stability safety factors are all larger than 4.5. And the structure has favorable stability reservations. The present study also indicated that when only geometric nonlinearity is included in analysis, the stability safety factors are about 64%∼71% to that of the elastic stability safety factors. While both geometric nonlinearity and material nonlinearity are incorporated in analysis, the corresponding stability factors are about 27%∼37% to that of the elastic stability safety factors.
