Abstract

The chapter discusses mechanical properties of a rigid connection subjected to static load by means of nonlinear finite element analysis with ALGOR. The result of the analysis shows that the connection between a web of beams and a flange of column has less impact on the strength of the connection joint under the condition of reasonable design. Any connection between the web of beams and the flange of column has less impact on the strength of the joint. Under this situation, the dog-bone cross-section can play a significant role in deviating the plastic hinge from the weak weld to the beam.
