Abstract

A problem of geometrically nonlinear deformation and stability of supported cylindrical shells with the oval cross-section contour is solved by the finite element method. The nonlinear deformation and stability of shells under combined loading by bending, torsion moments, transverse force and internal pressure are analyzed. The critical loads and buckling modes of shells are determined. The influence of deformation nonlinearity and shell ovality on critical loads is clarified.
