Abstract

As the optical transmission system is developing in the direction of ultra-high speed and ultra-long distance, the dispersion and nonlinearity of optical fibers has an increasing influence on signal transmission. In this paper, the variable-coefficient higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation is studied to investigate the effect of nonlinearity on soliton transmission in dispersion management systems. Analytic soliton solution is derived, and M-typed solitons are observed. The improvement of system performance is analyzed. In addition, a nonlinear control method is proposed based on the analysis of corresponding parameters.
