Abstract

AbstractEarthquake engineering design of buildings increasingly is using nonlinear dynamic analysis procedures to demonstrate building performance. These procedures require: an understanding of the relation between performance and nonlinear modeling; selection and manipulation of ground motions appropriate to design hazard levels; selection of appropriate nonlinear models and analysis procedures; and interpretation of results to determine design quantities based on nonlinear dynamic analysis procedures. These topics are discussed with an emphasis on tall buildings. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
