Abstract
We examine conditions under which non-particle-like zero-energy (Goldstone) modes can occur in spontaneously broken symmetries. The conditions are illustrated in the case of the spontaneous breakdown of Lorentz invariance, Galilei invariance, and supersymmetry at finite temperature.
