Abstract

To all textbook publishers, educational journalists, departments of education, state and county and district boards of education, junior college and high school and middle school and elementary school administrations, and teachers: Since it appears that about every ten years we adopt a new set of language guidelines for textbooks, school materials, and official documents, let me propose the following changes which, I believe, shall escape the taint of partisanship and establish a benign compromise concerning verbal propriety in public education, at least for the next decade.
