Abstract

Non-noble metal catalysts (NNMC) have been prepared from iron sulfide in acidic solution by imbibing the solution into a porous activated carbon, followed by heat treatment in ammonia. Rotating ring disk electrode (RRDE) measurements have been performed along with 24 hour potentiostatic measurements at 600 mV. These catalysts were found to be very active for oxygen reduction and had good stability over time. The activity and stability are comparable to the best non-noble metal catalysts reported in the literature.
