Abstract

The nS and nDJ levels of Cs have been measured with a thermionic diode applying the Dopplerfree two-photon spectroscopy and a vacuum wave-meter. The ionisation energy of Cs was derived to high precision from Rydberg-Ritz fitting procedures. The quantum defects of the nDJ series were found to have a surprising, non-monotonie dependence on n.
