Abstract

The effect of melt undercooling on solidification modes of peritectic Co–Si alloys has been studied by electromagnetic levitation. For Co 82.5Si 17.5, Co 81Si 19 and Co 75Si 25 alloys there are transitions towards direct crystallization of peritectic ε-Co and a metastable Co 3Si phase, respectively. For Co 73Si 27 a morphology change of the equilibrium α-Co 2Si phase was observed.
