Abstract

The noise sources of high speed rotating spindles and bobbins are described. Expressions are derived for the intensity and sound power of the discrete frequency noise of an eccentric rotating bobbin, using a rotating dipole model. Experimental results show reasonable agreement with the theory. Other sources including bearing noise are examined and noise reductions of both discrete and broad-band components obtained by the use of flexible bearing mounts are included.
