Abstract

In recent years full air-conditioning systems have been installed in the Philadephia Academy of Music and in the Boston Symphony Hall, replacing the original heating and ventilating systems. In this paper the new air-conditioning systems are briefly described, and the steps that were taken at each hall to control the system noise levels are reviewed. Noise levels measured in various seating sections of each hall with the air-conditioning system operating are reported and compared with previous conditions.
