No page charge for IFT members for JFS in 2007: Progress for IFT's peer‐reviewed journals

Abstract

At the beginning of the new millennium there was a dream that IFT should publish the premier journals in food science education, reviews in food science, and food science research. To that end, IFT created the Journal of Food Science Education and Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety and rejuvenated the Journal of Food Science. We have made significant progress with all three journals: JFSE is attracting a steady stream of papers on food science education and has been adopted by the Education Division as its publishing organ; CRFSFS has been accepted into Thomson's ISI Citation Index and will have an impact factor for 2007; JFS made some progress in increasing its impact factor, was ranked number 8 in journals publishing papers in food science and technology for the period 1996-2005, has a record low 125 days from submission to publication, and will eliminate page charges for IFT members in 2007. JFSE and CRFSFS have never had page charges and are freely accessible to all readers. We believe this last factor for JFS, eliminating page charges for members for papers submitted after January 1, 2007, will increase its competitiveness for authors. Several of our competitive journals have eliminated page charges. Thank you to the Executive Committee and the Finance Committee for finding a way to pass the hurdle of page charges. Now I ask you to continue your support for IFT's journals in 2007.
