Abstract

We have studied ortho-para conversion of hydrogen to high pressures in a diamond anvil cell using NMR. The conversion rate equation is modified for high temperatures to include a first order process related to the known quadratic rate constant. The rate constant which is $1.9%/\mathrm{h}$ at zero pressure, rises, dips, and then increases to $58%/\mathrm{h}$ at our highest pressure, 12.8 GPa.
