Abstract

In the current study, N flows are modelled for an academic campus and the major flows are identified to examine alternate management scenarios and discover environmental degradation areas. Substance Flow Analysis (SFA) is carried out using STAN software to quantify N flows. The primary sources of information were the official records, literature, and interviews with officials and staff. After modelling the present scenario, futuristic scenarios were created and modelled to investigate the potential of reducing nitrogen loadings to the environment. The alternative scenario involving onsite urine collection and treatmenthas the potential to reduce the nitrogen loadings to the environment as compared to the scenario with nutrient recovery from food waste.
