Abstract
Those who have had the privilege of visiting the Nishapur gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will have some inkling of what treasures this long awaited volume holds. While the ceramics of Nishapur have enjoyed renown for decades, the context from which they came rested until now with the excavators. Most unfortunately, two of the three expedition leaders have died, Walter Hauser, who organized the excavations, and the present author, Charles K. Wilkinson, who managed to complete this text before his death in April 1986.
