Abstract
Balinese songs, both traditional and modern, are creative literary works that are appreciative, inspirational, and contain many positive character education values. Balinese song literature was deliberately created as an entertainment as well as an educational medium. Many positive characters can be formed through appreciation of Balinese songs. The aim of this research is to determine the existence of appreciation for Balinese songs and describe the positive character values implied in the lyrics of Balinese songs. The research data was taken from a number of traditional and modern Balinese songs lyric which are often listened by the Balinese people and are commonly used as teaching materials for Balinese literature. These songs are observed, read carefully, and the essence of their positive character is extracted, then presented as the analysis results. Based on the research and analysis that has been carried out, it can be concluded that appreciation activities for Balinese songs are still widely carried out in the formal and informal sectors for the purposes of entertainment, preservation and moral ethics education. It turns out that quite a lot of traditional and modern Balinese songs lyric contain positive character education values to improve the moral ethics of the nation's children.
