Abstract

Contemporary philosophy of education ignores Nietzsche’s philosophy so much so that there seems to be a conspiracy of silence against it among educationists. Most of them would probably consider a discussion of Nietzsche’s concept of education a contradiction in terms. And yet there are few philosophical systems in which the concept of education is of such momentous purport as it is in that of Nietzsche. This disregard of Nietzsche is illuminating of the philosophy of education itself no less than it is of Nietzsche.
