Abstract

Abstract The author gives a short description of modern geophysical exploration methods, with examples of practical results obtained. It is pointed out that geologists, in most cases, took the initiative to the first applications of these physical methods for exploration purposes, and that even the actual surveying with these new »tools for the geologist» was often carried out by geologists at that time. Since then geophysical exploration has developed into a science of its own, and geologists nowadays, with rare exceptions, consider themselves unable to master, and even to understand, the geophysical technique. As a partial remedy to this situation it is suggested, that the training of young geologists ought to include courses in mathematics, physics and geophysical exploration methods.
