Abstract

N.A.S.-N.R.C. NOTESOn July 1st Dr. T. C. Byerly, Deputy Administrator, Farm Research, Agricultural Research Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture, will become Chairman of the Division of Biology and Agriculture, National Academy of Sciences—National Research Council, succeeding Dr. H. B. Steinbach who has served for four years.In 1946 Dr. Byerly was appointed as the Representative of the Poultry Science Association to the National Research Council. On April 11, 1947, an Organizing Board launched the American Institute of Biological Sciences, as a part of the Division of Biology and Agriculture, and Dr. Byerly became a Member of the First Governing Board of A.I.B.S. and of its Executive Committee. On his recommendation the Poultry Science Association became one of the earliest members of A.I.B.S. In 1953 Dr. Byerly became Chairman (the office now called President) of A.I.B.S., and was the last head of A.I.B.S. to complete his term before …
