This legislation would protect Americans from the deadly effects of tobacco by granting the Food and Drug Administration authority over the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of tobacco products. The bill would impose specific restrictions on tobacco marketing and sales to kids, require tobacco companies to disclose the contents of tobacco products and the health effects of their products, and give the FDA authority to require changes in tobacco products such as the removal of harmful ingredients and the reduction of nicotine to nonaddictive levels. The American Hospital Association, together with Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, Infectious Diseases Society of America, Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and The Joint Commission, have released a compendium of guidelines and strategies to help prevent the most dangerous...
