Abstract

This article will provide an overview of adequacy of the legal frame-work in securing the responsible and peaceful use of outer space, and long-standing diplomatic efforts to prevent the extension of arms into the final frontier. Specifically, it will turn attention to the recently adopted UN Long-Term Sustainability Guidelines, as well as civil society initiatives, such as the McGill Manual on International Law Applicable to Military Uses of Outer Space (McGill Manual, or MILAMOS), which aim to increase trans-parency and strengthen the rule of law in a domain space where scientific, economic and strategic interest invariably intercept and intertwine.
