Abstract

The course of radical polymerization is analysed with respect to its separate stages. Particular attention is paid to kinetic aspects and the mechanism of initiation, taking into account the structure of the initiator and the nature and viscosity of the medium (solvent, monomer and polymer formed). The possibilities are discussed of a new type of polyfunctional initiator of radical polymerization, enabling macromolecules of different structure to be produced in several stages, including comb-like, graft copolymers and block copolymers. Kinetic features of initiation by polyfunctional initiators of different structure and their use in practice are analysed.
