Abstract

ABSTRACT The City of Ardabil was studied from the perspective of New Urbanism to identify implementation strategies for solving its problems and improving its overall condition. To achieve this goal, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT), and the average scores methods by the 45 experts have been used. The result of AHP is to recognize the priorities of the 10 principles of New Urbanism. The results of the SWOT are as follows: 1) The strengths will overcome the weaknesses. 2) Opportunities will overcome threats. 3) The dominant strategy with a score of 2.9 for weaknesses and strengths, and a score of 2.6 for opportunities and threats is a combination of strengths and opportunities. The result of the average scores (2.288 out of 4) shows the “bad” state of the city for New Urbanism. Finally, three implementation strategies for the city were selected using an attractiveness questionnaire.
