Abstract
New ternary rare earth borides with composition RTB 2 (R = rare earth metal, T = transition metal) have been synthesized from the elements. From X-ray powder diffraction analysis all compounds (CeRuB 2, GdRuB 2, GdOsB 2 and YbOsB 2) were found to crystallize with the LuRuB 2-type of structure. A limited range of existence was found for CeRuB 2 between 800° and 900°C.
