Abstract

Drastic changes in the activity and selectivity of methane and methanol formation were observed in CO-H2 reaction over Pd/CeO2 catalysts by high temperature reduction (SMSI effect). A new reaction mechanism for methane formation is proposed, which involves (CO)2(a) and/or (HCO)2(a) species as intermediates for isotopic exchange and methane formation processes, respectively.
