Abstract

AbstractThis chapter considers events work in both conventions and cultural festivals. It offers an insight into the direction professionalization is taking in the field of event management in Hungary. It details the skills, abilities and competencies required by event managers, the characteristics of event work and the role of professional associations. The state of professionalism in the Hungarian events sector is examined in relation to Greenwood's five attributes of a profession. The chapter concludes that the process of professionalization is seeing the emergence of a recognized event management profession in Hungary, while, at the same time, there is also increased specialization within the profession.
