Abstract

The new phosphate vanadates, narrow range solid solutions Ba2.4Mn2.6V1.5P2.5O15 and Ba2.6Mn2.4VP3O15 were synthesized. The structural refinement based on X-ray powder diffraction data showed that these phosphate vanadates are characterized by monoclinic symmetry with space group P21/c, (# 14), Z = 4. The crystal structure of the studied solid solutions can be considered as a monoclinic distortion of the orthorhombic crystal lattice of Sr2.4-хCo2.6+xP3VO15. A rather rare phenomenon was found when barium and manganese (2+) cations share an octahedral site coordinated by oxygen ions.
