Abstract

Abstract A new phase, β′, has been characterized through a combination of techniques redox titration, paper chromatography, and XRD measurements. The general formula of β′-phase with (VO)2+(VO)2n−13+ (P2O7)4−(PO4)2n3− (n is 1,2,4.8,- - -,) was performed. The β′-phase is indexed in orthorhombic system with the space group C2v5 similar to that of (VO)2(P2O7). The cell dimensions for the full oxidized β′-phase are given a = 9.751 Å, b = 8.451 Å, and c = 16.968 Å. A topotactic redox reaction undergoes between β′-phase and (VO)2P2O7 for the oxidation of butane to maleic anhydride.
