Summary This paper presents a new optimal [36,13,12] binary linear block code which reaches the upper bound in [1] for best known binary linear block codes and its construction. It has a symmetric weight spectrum different to the known [36,13,12] codes constructed from the Morii [37,14,12] code [2] by shortening.
