Abstract
This paper proposes an original method of optimization of machines tools selection during the generation of process planning. This method used the multi-layer neural networks which are able to give solutions for machine tools selection according to proposed machining features. In this work, we have elaborated three complementary parts which make it possible to choose the machine tools, as well as their characteristics; firstly, we have created a data base knowledge of know-how, and this here starting from the investigation with experts in mechanical companies of manufacture. Secondly, we have developed multi-layer neural networks whose desired outputs are classes of machine tools which are selected according to the characteristics of machining features. In end, we have created second multi-layer neural networks which produces the machine tools able and available to make machining according to classes of machine tools selected by the first neural networks, capacity of machining workshop, availability of the machine tools and cutting conditions.
