Abstract

ABSTRACT The paper presents.the dynamic.performance of a wind turbine generator subjected to wind gusts and electrical disturbances using a digital controller for blade pitch angle of the wind turbine. The adaptive pitch controller is a low order self-tuner based on minimum variance strategy and stochastic approximation variant of the least square parameter estimator. The adaptive controller is found to be effective during low and high mode wind turtine operation and also during load shedding and reconnection of the wind generator. Further a static reactive power controller is used to provide damping during electric disturbances such as short-circuits and load rejection at the terminals of the generator. The adaptive controller can be easily implemented on a single chip micro-computer.
