Abstract
Abstract Glass formation has been investigated in the binary systems GaF 3 MF 2 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) and GaF 3 YF 3 and in GaF 3 SrF 2 MF n (M = Mg, Zn, Ca, Y). Glass transition occurs between 320 and 400°C. Fluorogallate glasses are of potential interest as low phonon energy glasses for passive and active optical fibers.
